For as far back as 25 years, Ra Paulette has been cutting out man-made hollows from the sandstone slopes of New Mexico, and after that chiseling these spaces into centerpieces he calls wild sanctuaries. Lee Cowan has the account of a craftsman who tries his hardest work underground.
